An overview
Bisoprolol is a selective beta-blocker that markedly depresses plasma renin activity and cardiac activity, reducing oxygen demand. It also possesses local anesthetic properties similar to propranolol.
As a cardioselective β1 receptor blocker, its action is specific in heart before being effective in lung, so it is indicated alone or in combination with other drugs in the treatment of various heart conditions, especially high blood pressure (hypertension) and chronic stable angina pectoris.
